A little bit about me
I am originally from Tennessee. I graduated from Coffee County Central High School in 1972. As an undergraduate, I attended Vanderbilt University as a Navy ROTC scholarship student graduating with a Bachelor of Science majoring in mathematics and minoring in physics. Upon graduation from college, I was commissioned as a surface line officer in the US Navy. I served on three ships, USS Bowen (FF 1079), USS Hayler (DD 997) and USS Blakely (FF 1072). I served ashore at COMNAVSURFLANT, Naval Reserve Center Baltimore MD, Naval Reserve Center Decatur IL, and Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center Peoria IL. I retired from active naval service as a Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) in 1996.
I earned a Master of Liberal Studies from Bradley University in 1995 and a Master Certificate in Information Security Management from Villanova University in 2014
For the past 30 years I have worked in schools, first as a math and computer networking teacher and later as an IT Director in three school districts. Specifically, I was a Cisco Systems Networking Academy instructor for six years where I became proficient in the design and implementation of computer networks. I am proficient in the setup and programming of network switches and routers. I also have experience setting up and maintaining servers, firewalls, VOIP telephone systems and security systems.
As I approach retirement, I want to maintain my skills and impart the knowledge I have gained over the years in a more limited capacity by doing consulting work for small and medium business that want personalized customer service but can not afford a full time IT staff.
